In 1925 New Zealand’s largest mud volcano was eroded by heavy rain, the mud pool now occupying the site provides one of the best opportunities to photograph and experience the unique character and sounds of erupting mud.
It is an ever active and changing landscape, when the rainfall is high generally the formations are more fluid than they are after the dry spells associated with the summer months.
(The above information was taken from the Wai-O-tapu Thermal Wonderland Web Site.
If you turn left as you exit this road you will arrive at the Wonderland a short distance away.)
The cache is a camouflaged painted one litre container initially containing a screwdriver set, tape measure, fridge magnet, pukeko magnet, two postcards, smiley face puzzle, note book and two pencils
