Geocache Description:

The Emu Mob's forty-fifth cache is one of a series of caches that focuses on public sculpture. Sculpture seems particularly prone to diverse opinions and arguments as to "value". This is your opportunity to comment.

What is art? To one person, an item may have artistic value, but to another, the same item might bring a response of:
WHAT THE . . . ?

The subjects of this cache could easily elicit either response. Yes, subjects, plural. This time you will be going on a tour of three sculptures near the Monash University Art Museum. The three sculptures are in close proximity, and the final cache is not far away either—less than 100m of walking, all up.

At the published coordinates (S 37° 54.806, E 145° 07.953) you should be looking at some wooden sculptures; gather the following information:

  • How many wooden sculptures are there? This number is a.
Now proceed the short distance to sculpture number two at S 37° 54.792, E 145° 07.957. This one is made of metal; gather the following information:
  • How many girders are supporting the sculpture? This number is b.
Now proceed the short distance to sculpture number three at S 37° 54.783, E 145° 07.973. This one is made of masonry; gather the following information:
  • How many slabs of granite are embedded in the grass? This number is cd.
  • How many rocks have slabs of granite embedded in them? This number is ef.
The cache is located at:

S 37° 54.(f–c)(b–e)(a–b), E 145° 07.(a+b)(f–e)(a+b)

For some reason, GPS coverage at GZ is not wonderful, however, you should be able to see where the cache is hidden from afar.

Stealth will be required! As always, please replace the cache exactly where you found it to discourage accidental discovery.

The Cache:

The cache container is a VHS video cassette box in a zip-lock bag. The container is not waterproof, but is located out of the weather (that's a hint). Please endeavour to preserve the integrity of the zip-lock bag (translation: be careful not to rip or tear it). I've included a spare zip-lock bag that you can use in the event of an accident. If you have to use the replacement zip-lock bag, please send me an email, or mention it in your online log.

The initial contents are:

Emu
Mondo figure (France 1800)
Pack of multi-coloured hair ties
Fighting Parkinson's pen
Pair of dice
Assorted foreign coins
Log book, stash note, and pen

As always, please replace the cache exactly where you found it to discourage accidental discovery. Please feel free to express your opinion of the sculptures in your online log.

Thanks for visiting. I hope you find the sculptures worth the visit (personally, I wouldn't give you two bob for the three of them!).
