General information

This cache takes place in the Bordrup plantation, which you can read more about below. The plantation is a part of the training area in connection to Oksbøl military camp, why area can be periodically closed off. For further information please follow this link:

If the plantation is closed off, you will see this when you arrive at the parking lot - the route from here will be blocked by a black and yellow gate with the text “closed – live firing". If this gate I out, you may under no circumstances continue into the plantation. The trip draws out approx. 8 km. in bee line, which means you will walk about 12-13 km. on the ground. The last third of the cache will take place in the dark, and all together the cache is anticipated to last about 4-5 hours, from when you start at the parking lot and returns here again. Please don’t give any hints in the log, and don’t take pictures that can reveal the individual location of the stations.

The Bordrup Plantation

On your walk through the forest, you will probably notice that the landscape is very curved compared to other westjutlandic forests. The reason for this is that the Bordrup plantation emerged in an attempt to stop the migrating dune called Bordrup Sande, which was one of Denmark’s largest migrating dunes before its planting. Bordrup Sande is also what you call a parable dune, because it’s migration through the land has given the dune shape as a horseshoe, with the curve pointing east, and the pins pointing west, from where the wind blows. Before Bordrup Sande was stopped, it managed to migrate 6-7 km into land. Large wet plains, what we today know as Kallesmærsk plain, and low water lakes which periodically dries up, is all Bordrup Sande left behind. A solution to this problem was already put in progress in the 17th century, by putting the citizen of the parish in forced labour for the government. In the beginning they attempted to cease the migration of Bordrup Sande mainly with dunegrazing, but some tests was also carried out with trees. These test however, first became a success in 1846 where the two planters Poul Hansen and Hans Poulsen began to cease the migration of Bordrup Sande. During the first period, attempts were made with many different treespecies, which has lead to a large variation of trees, as you will experience. It was discovered that mountain pine is the specie which copes best with the pure dunes, and that is why large areas covered only with mountain pine can be experienced.

Briefing

As you have read in the text above, the Bordrup plantation is a very significant area, and hopefully it will stay this way. Therefore you will on this mission be in a close alliance with the FPA (Federal Preservation Agency) whom just have received a report of a potential threat against the plantation. During an overflight of the area with a C-130J Hercules, a crate with explosives accidentally fell off the concerned Aircraft. The cause of this is not yet known, but insufficient fastening and turbulence seems to be the reason. There is a risk that the explosives might explode, but even though this risk is minimal, it is essential that this threat is removed, as it might have importance for our national security. Your objective will be to locate the crate containing the explosives, and sweeping other areas of the plantation for potential debris caused by the crate’s fall from the aircraft. This has to take place in deepest secret to avoid a mediastorm. This is the reason why the FPA has developed a system that uses the Department of Environment’s (SNS) markings in the plantation. In order to use this system, it is necessary to have a decryption key which you will receive at station 1. The system uses a Value Identification Number (V.ID.N) which you have to use in order to proceed to the following stations. This is necessary to keep the explosives exact location 100% unknown for everybody not connected to the FPA. You will mainly use the decryption key on the first half of this mission. Feel free to keep the decryption key after completion of this mission. The last third of the mission is very critical, as you here gets closer to the explosives, and therefore it’s necessary that this part takes place in the dark, in order to keep you unseen. The FPA had SNS place reflectors on certain stations to speed up your mission. It has however to be underlined that the SNS has no knowledge of the explosives, but is in the faith that it’s a part of the FPA’s training program. On this mission it is necessary to bring a good and powerful flashlight. Furthermore it can be an advantage also to bring a compass, binoculars and a map over the area. So far the briefing, a detailed plan over the positions you have to secure follows below.

NOTE: A Black MTB trail triangle has been added to the SNS markings, as you will discover. The trail has been created after this cache, and this is why it is not represented on the decryption key. You simply have to ignore these markings in order to complete the cache. Ignore only the black triangle, not the MTB logo when calculating the V.ID.N.

Look for a box in which you will find the decryption key you have to use in order to complete this mission. In this box you will also find instructions on how to use the decryption key. Please leave the instructions in the box. I case this box should be found by others, it also contains fake decryption keys. Therefore you must make sure the decryption key is supplied with the FPA stamp, and have the following serial number: 57002349023. In this box you will also find information regarding station 2.

Station 2

On this station you have to use the decryption key for the first time. Calculate the V.ID.N. according to the instructions at station 1. On your way to station 3, you will presumably follow a narrow path. The FPA knows that the aircraft has passed this area short after the crate with explosives fell off. Therefore you have to be extra attentive on this section, as there can be some debris from the aircraft.

The mentioned path ends at this point at another red pole. Calculate the V.ID.N. and proceed to station 4.

At this location you will find 4 red poles placed quite close together. Make sure the pole you are standing a, does NOT have a MTB marking on it.

Calculate the poles V.ID.N. and proceed to station 5.

Look for information regarding the next 2 stations. The information is placed by the foot of a tree, with a nice overview of the area.

Calculate the poles V.ID.N., note, and proceed to station 9

Station 9

This would be a suitable place for a break, and a good spot to have an overview over the mission. This spot is XX,Y meters high

You are now standing on a hill on which there is a pole that is partial red. On this pole there is a double-digit number. This number is now A. You will probably see quite a few of these poles on this mission. These are all placed by the FPA, and are used as reference points on missions like this.

Station 11

On this spot you will find a pole on which there is a yellow sign marked U. On this pole is also a double-digit number, this number is B.

Station 12

Here you will find another of the FPA’s reference points. The number on this pole is C.

When you arrive at this station, it’s a necessity that it is dark. You will need your flashlight to locate a number of reflectors. As soon as you see one reflector, the others should be easy to find. In order to find the reflectors, place yourself with your legs spread across the tree with a plastic band and a tiny reflector at this location, facing south south east.

The number of reflectors is D.

Look for a canister containing the coordinates for station 16. The canister is placed near one of the legs on this structure.

Station 16

As you are getting closer to the crate with explosives, it is important that you get away from these wide roads, to avoid detection, since this mission, as told, under no circumstances must reach the press. Therefore you’ll have to follow the path northwest of your current location – Be prepared for some tough terrain.
At this station you should be able to find a tree on which there is painted blue stripes. The number of stripes is E.

You are standing at a tree with a yellow mark. A rectangular yellow sign is located near this tree, on which there is a number. This number is G. NOTE: More than one yellow sign is present at the location, but number is not to miss on the right sign.

Station 19

This spot is a good vantage point, and you can take advantage of this. If the weather is clear you should be able to see a long series of red blinking lights in direction south west. What you see is the offshore windmill farm located at Horns Rev, and it is a quite significant sight, as the lights covers an area of more than 20km2. The Windmills are located 20-25km from your current location. In order to see these lights, it is necessary that that weather is clear with good visibility, but if this is the case, these lights are clearly seen, even without binoculars.

The crate with explosives should be found at this location, according to the FPA’s intelligence. This intelligence also states that the crate contained 4 blocks of plastic explosive, before it fell of the aircraft. The blocks have the following ID. Numbers: 2607, 0326, 0332 and 0416. Unless you have found some of these block in your search around terrain, all 4 blocks should preferably still be in the crate. Check that all 4 blocks are intact and sealed. In the crate you will find instructions regarding handling of the explosives. FPA appreciates your co-operation on this mission.
