Another Central Otago cache in the "Lord of the Rings" series
The Rohan burning village and several other scenes from "The Two Towers" film were shot on location near Poolburn Dam. This cache is hidden very near the remains of the burning village, and this scene in the film is easily recognisable when you get there. Some other scenes were shot on private land nearby.
The public road up there from Moa Creek is interesting, as you are surrounded by huge schist tors with fantastic shapes - look out for the "rabbit" rock. But make sure you take a warm jacket, as it can get cool when the wind blows.
As you approach the cache, be careful of the very sharp spikes on the Spaniard speargrass.
The cache is a 400ml camo screwtop, with logbook, pencils, sharpener, silica gel satchets, and initial contents of 2 red dice, a red Fire Dept car, and TB Legolas.
