Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in honor of David&Diana's 2000th find.

This cache is NOT at the posted coordinates. You will need to solve the puzzle to find the location of this cache.

We were trying to come up with a name for this cache, and I told my son that it was a Logic Problem, and that the cachers would have to use their ‘noggin’ to solve it. He said “Egg Noggin?”… so there you go.

To find this cache, you will definitely have to use your 'Noggin’. One of my favorite types of puzzles are logic problems. Sometimes they give me a headache (my husband suggested “Extra-Strength Tylenol” for the cache name), but they’re still fun to solve. Below is a logic problem (with a local twist) that contains a series of clues to help you solve the puzzle. When you’ve figured out the solution, use the clues below the chart to help you find the coordinates to the cache. I hope you will enjoy solving it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

This cache contains a clue for the D&D 2000 Challenge Marathon Cache (GCTM6X). Before you can solve D&D2K Marathon, you MUST first find the D&D2K Prerequisite - Get Your Pen & Pencil (GCTN1W).

The final cache is hidden in a regular sized ammo can and is filled with puzzles, brain teasers, and games. Enjoy!

Good luck!

Logic Problem

A secret lake in the center of Old Salem was discovered by 10 local geocachers, and each decided to hide a new cache in the heavily wooded area around the lake. The lake now has 10 unique caches, numbered consecutively from west to east, odd numbers 1 to 9 on the north side of the lake and even numbers 2 to 10 on the south side (see the Lake chart below). Honeychile and the nine other cachers each hid a different type of cache (including a Letterbox), and within a week’s time, a different amount of people had found each cache (one had been logged 4 times). From this information and the following clues, can you determine who hid each type of cache, its cache number, and how many times the cache was found (logged) the first week?

Clues:
  1. FeatheredFriends’ cache (which isn’t the Regular cache) is directly across the lake from Jim+Ann’s (whose cache was not found 15 times).

  2. The cache logged 8 times is one spot next to and west of the 2-Stage Multi cache.

  3. Night-Hawk’s cache is next to the Puzzle cache; the one found 23 times is located next to the Micro cache.

  4. The cache logged 7 times is one position next to and west of the cache found 5 times (which is directly across from the one that was logged 15 times).

  5. Tarheel33’s cache is exactly between Bosley’s (which is not the 3-Stage Multi) and the Virtual cache (which is somewhere west of Cache Buzzard’s cache).

  6. NCMountie hid his cache exactly between the Webcam cache (yep, a Webcam) and the Regular cache (which was not found 10 times).

  7. The 4-Stage Multi is located next to the one found 2 times (which is not the Micro cache).

  8. The cache found 10 times has a lower cache number than the one found 13 times (which is one position next to and west of the 5-Stage Multi cache); the 5-Stage Multi has a cache number exactly half that of Tarheel33’s.

  9. Pirates of the Carolinas’ cache was logged 1 time; Cache Buzzard’s cache is directly opposite the 3-Stage Multi.

  10. Raven Pop’s cache and the one found 23 times are as far apart as possible.

Use the Lake layout below to help in solving this problem.

The following table can also help you in solving this problem.

If you choose to use this table, you can do so by entering the information obtained from the clues by using an X to indicate a definite "no" and a dot to show a definite "yes". Once you enter a definite "yes" (dot), you can place a "no" (X) in all the rest of the boxes in each row and column of that section that contains the dot.

[Click Here] to bring up the table to print. Before you print, make sure you change the printer options to print in landscape format, so you will get all the table on one page.

After solving the problem, use your results and the following clues to fill in the real cache’s location!

N 36°  0  A  .  B   C   D         W 80°  1  E  .  F   G   H

A = NCMountie’s cache number
B = Pirates of the Carolinas’ cache number, minus one
C = Number of logs for Cache Buzzard’s cache
D = The Virtual’s cache number, minus one
E = Number of logs for the Regular cache
F = The Letterbox’s cache number
G = Number of logs for Bosley’s cache, plus one
H = The Puzzle cache’s cache number
