This is a quick two stage multi-cache (10-15min) at a site where
you might not know what you were looking at if you weren't
geocaching... and have access to this information.

The cache is locate along the Trans Canada Trail on the Rossburn
subdivision section of this truly Canadian trail. At the posted
coordinates you will find the foundation of an old water tower used
to fill steam trains. These water towers were constructed
approximately every 80 kilometres (50 miles), the distance a steam
locomotive could safely travel between water refills. The Rolling
River was used in this case as the water source, which has it's
head waters originating in Riding Mountian National Park, then
flows south through the Rolling River Reserve and discharges into
the Little Saskachewan River. By the late 1950s, the railway
companies converted to diesel-powered locomotives as well as
closing down this specific rail line which became part of the Trans
Canada Trail.
You can still find a surviving Canadian Pacific Railway Water Tower
which has been designated as a Manitoba Provincial Heritage Site on
Railway Avenue in the Village of Glenboro. (If somebody has the
coordinates to this historic site, please post it in a note so I
can update this site with the information.

If you are interested in railways and would like to know more,
visit the Dauphin Rail Museum housed in the magnificent brick
Canadian Northern (CN) Station built in 1912, and next to an active
CN and VIA line. The museum contains artifacts, pictures, and
archival material related to 100 years of railway service in the
region. A large scale model train layout depicting the rail
facilities circa 1954 is on display.

November 25, 2009 by Rnakonec (302 found) This is the 2nd time I was here. The first time was about 2 years ago when I just started geocaching...wasn't even sure what I was looking for then. This time, with excellent coordinates, I spotted the clue quickly. Found the cache with the new coords. TNLN.SL TFTC!

November 21, 2009 by festucafinder (381 found) An unorthodox find. Could not find stage one so took a guess at where stage two would be and was rewarded. That's all that counts to log it RIGHT? Thanks for the side trip along a route I travel often.

August 21, 2009 by fatnomore06 (152 found) Looked and looked for the first stage but could not find. Was going to try looking for the second stage based of some previous logs, but things started smelling a bit skunky so I left- after all we were going out for dinner on our last evening at Clear Lake and I didn't want to smell bad . Enjoyed the history lesson though. Might be back next summer to try again.
