Håverud är enda platsen i Europa där båtar,
bilar och tåg kan mötas på samma plats, på
olika nivåer. Dalslands kanals akvedukt var en genialisk
lösning på ett stort problem Det verkade inte
möjligt att bygga kanal och slussar här pga den mjuka
berggrunden och den djupa dalen där älven forsade fram.
Den ansvarige för projektet, Nils Ericson, förordade att
en akvedukt skulle byggas över den svåraste delen och
att kanalens övre del skulle läggas på en hylla
på berget - och så blev det!!
Akvedukten är en 32,5 m lång plåtränna och
samman fogad av
33 000 nitar. Den invigdes av Kung Karl XV i september 1868.

The Dalslands canal aqueduct was an ingenious solution to a major
problem. It seemed impossible to build a canal and locks here due
to the soft rock and the deep valley where thw river gushed forth.
The man responible for the project, Nils Ericson, recommended than
an aqueduct should be built over the most difficult section, and
that the upper part of the canal should be placed on a shelf on the
mounting - and that is how it was done!
The aqueduct is a 32,5 m-long metal chute which is held together
with 33 000 rivets.
It was opened by King Karl XV in September 1868.
