Geocache Description:

Imagine you were in a plane ,10,000 metres up in the air ,looked down over Melbourne and tried to calculate the dead centre of the city.Well,RMIT University has done it and got it pin pointed to 1 square centimetre exactly.A plaque has been concreted in the ground to mark its significance and you can stand on the spot thats the 'dead centre of Melbourne'.Before clicking to a map to see where it is -try guessing what suburb it is and see how close you get ?

Would the plaque come out on a house,road,shop,bushland or some eerie location.To mark the significance of Melbournes expanding suburbs a 1 litre sistema container is hidden with many treats and zip-lock bag containing log book and a pen.

Through the application of technology ,a mapping team of experts from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and RMIT University has found the centimetre spot ;centre of Melbourne.Using geospatial information,satellite data and GPS systems,the team then used the boundries of Mt Eliza arcing to Werribee -Point Cook and calculated all information to achieve the result,together with the mathematical equation known as "Moment Centroid ".
The given co-ords will see you standing at "the dead centre of Melbourne"
