Geocache Description:

On the headland overlooking Llanbedrog beach close to the Tin Man sculpture

The cache is hidden close to the Tin Man sculpture on the headland overlooking Llanbedrog beach on the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales.
The sculpture can be reached directly from the beach up a steep climb of 300 steps or so. From the beach slipway go right past the small cottage and the path heads up through the trees.
For information on the village and the sculpture see www.llanbedrog.info from where I have copied the following information (Thanks to Alan Harper-Smith) :
"It is not clear what the purpose was of placing what has become known as the Tin Man or Tinman on Llanbedrog headland. However, it can be seen from the beach and of course from the grounds of Plas Glyn-y-Weddw. The Original Tin Man (pictured left) was a figurehead from a ship, placed there by Solomon Andrews, a wealthy Cardiff businessman. When it was vandalized by being burnt the village decided to replace it with another one, which was commissioned for £7,000 and was designed and built by Mr Simon Van De Put and put in position in 1981. It was then known as the iron man. However, this was also vandalized so that all that remained were the boots!
Again the village decided to replace the second one with a third, but this time using local village talent. The team consisted of Berwyn Jones, who designed the new Tinman and two local craftsmen David and Hugh Jones who created the final product. This was helicoptered into position on Llanbedrog headland on Jubilee weekend (1st June 2002). The new one is hollow and is good to visit on a windy day when the wind makes the Tin Man sing! If you want to contact the backsmith who did all this sterling work look at his web site on (visit link) just click on the link.
The headland is a fabulous place to walk with magnificent views - well worth a visit."
The picture on the OS map is the second one which has since been replaced.
Our preferred walk is to park in the National Trust car park (£3 or free for members) then walk back up the hill past the church of St Pedrog, bearing left and turning up the road immediately before the Church Hall. The footpath goes through a gate to the left about 75 yards ahead. Following the path upwards takes you to the Trig point and a stone circle. There is a terrific view of the Llyn peninsula and the mountains of Snowdonia. From here the path descends to the left towards the Tin Man.
Cache is in a plastic box wrapped in a green plastic bag. Contains logbook and many various items for exchange.
