Shropshire's Most Haunted - Old Colehurst Manor Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

The Bolas Heathens: Went up there this morning with a new cache all ready to replace the old, broken one but could not find a decent hiding place that did not involve a lot of nettles or brambles.

Took a while to ponder the possible places within a largish radius of the old hiding place and could not find any that I'd particularly enjoy going to if I was doing the cache myself so reluctantly we are archiving this one.

We may replace it elsewhere if we do find a decent place to put it.

Thanks for all those who came and found it. We've removed the remnants of the old cache and will scan the logbook in and post on here later on today.

Geocache Description:

Old Closehurst Manor is hidden away down a small lane off the A41 just south of Market Drayton. It's one of the most haunted houses in North Shropshire!

Ghosts A Plenty!

Old Colehurst ManorThere are a number of ghosts that haunt the house, but only two appear regularly.

One ghost is seen all the time and has been nicknamed "Fred". He is dressed in typical 17th century costume and had long brown hair and a round face. He can be seen laughing and is thought of as a happy ghost.

The Manor was being renovated in the 1980's and "Fred" seemed to take a particular interest in the building works. He was often seen near to where the workmen were working on the house.

The other ghosts that are seen quite often are of three ghosts that sit near one of the downstairs windows. They are a young couple and a small child. The child is often crying and the couple are seen to try and comfort it. The parents succeed in their comforting and the child stops crying, before the ghosts vanish again.

The Manor is privately owned and used as a hotel and for weddings and parties. More details are available on their website at www.colehurst.co.uk. You will not need to enter the Manor grounds to find the cache.

The Cache

The posted co-ordinates are for the entrance gates to the Manor. Take note of the signs you see: On the large sign, the first date is ABCD, the second date is EFGH.

The final cache is at N52 52.B(B-A)(F-A-E) W002 30.D(B-A)H.

The cache container is a cylindrical shaped tupperware box with a screw top lid so there is only space for small swaps. We've left an initial selection of goodies in the container, together with a logbook and pen. It's hidden inside the usual camo bag. Please replace as you found it. There may be nettles near the cache but you should be able to retrieve it without going too near them.

Customised First, Second and Third to find certificates will be available for download after the appropriate finds are logged (we’ll email you a link).

Have fun - and say hello to any ghosts you may see on your travels - they are a friendly bunch!

Whilst you are in the area, our Entyrley Land Locked cache is very nearby and well worth a visit.
