Græsted Station blev
indviet i 1880 som endestation for Gribskovbanen. Her havde
banen ud over endestation desuden maskindepot, værksted,
hovedkontor og postekspedition. Det var således Græsted, der
udgjorde det centrale punkt i banen fra Hillerød.
I 1896 blev banen forlænget til Gilleleje, og året efter åbnede
strækningen mellem Kagerup og Helsinge. Denne blev i 1924 forlænget
helt til Tisvildeleje, og sådan ser banen ud den dag i dag, hvor
hovedkontoret for længst er flyttet. Men bygningerne står ikke
tomme af den grund.
Nu huser bygningerne nemlig Græsted Station og Remise, der
tilhører Nordsjællands
Veterantog, og her bruges faciliteterne til mange ting.
For det første er Græsted base for klubbens motormateriel og
vogne, som bliver opbevaret, vedligeholdt og restaureret her.
Således findes diesellokomotiverne GDS L1 og HFHJ M8, skinnebussen
LNJ Sm 13, en rangertraktor og alle klubbens driftsvogne her.
Desuden opbevares damplokomotivet ØG 1, også kendt som
"Skildpadden", i Græsted, hvor man af praktiske grunde normalt også
har damplokomotiver fra driften holdende i sommersæsonen.
I Græsted holder også GDS
11-projektet til. Det går ud på at få et gammelt lokomotiv fra
netop Gribskovbanen på skinner igen – et stort arbejde, der pt.
ventes færdigt i løbet af 2009.
Endelig gøres der også et stort arbejde med at etablere et
veterantogscenter, hvor man vil kunne opleve et stationsmiljø som
for ca. 100 år siden.
Nysgerrige er meget velkomne til at besøge stationen og
værkstedet, når der er åbent. Det er der som oftest lørdage og
søndage om eftermiddagen samt en del hverdagsaftener. Kig gerne ind
og se værksted og tog – og skulle lysten til at give en hånd med
melde sig, er der altid arbejde i en jernbaneklub.

Cachen
Selve cachen er en 4 L opbevaringsbeholder i blå plast. Luk
venligst grundigt og vær grundig ved genplacering, sådan at den
ikke kan falde ud.
Det er muligt at komme til cachen uden at gå gennem en låge, men
hvis man på den nemmeste vej til cachen møder en åben låge, må man
gerne gå gennem denne.
Bemærk at cachen befinder sig på privat område, og at der kan
være rangering med tog eller andet arbejde i området, så udvis
forsigtighed. Pas især på at børn ikke løber rundt uden opsyn eller
kravler op på ting. Ud over den almindelige risiko for at blive
beskidt ved geocaching er der desuden risiko for at få olie eller
lignende på tøjet visse steder.

Græsted Station
was opened in 1880 as the terminus for Gribskovbanen (The
Gribskov Forest Railway). This was where the railway had not
just its terminus but also depot, workshop, main office, and
postal service. Græsted was therefore the focal point for the
railway from Hillerød.
In 1896, the railway was extended to Gilleleje, and the
following year the Kagerup-Helsinge branch was added. This was
extended up to Tisvildeleje in 1924 and this is how the railway
looks thoday. The main office has been moved long time ago – but
the buildings are not empty for that reason.
Now, these buildings house Græsted Station and Græsted Remise
(depot) which belongs to Nordsjællands Veterantog
(Heritage Railway of North Zealand), and they have multiple uses
for the place.
First of all, Græsted is the base for the club's diesel
locomotives, shunters, and carriages. These are stored, maintained,
and being restored here. You can find the diesel locomotives, GDS
L1 and HFHJ M8, the LNJ Sm 13 rail car, a shunter, and all the
carriages here. Græsted is also home to the ØG 1 steam locomotive
(also known as "The Tortoise"), and, for practical reasons, the
steam locomotives used for operations are stored here during the
summer.
You can also find the GDS
11 project here – an old steam locomotive that used to run on
the local railway is being brought back to life, hopefully going
back into service in 2009.
Finally, a lot of work is also being done on creating a heritage
railway centre where you can see a station environment as it looked
about 100 years ago.
Visitors are very welcome to drop by and have a look inside the
station and the workshop whenever it is open. It is usually open on
Saturday and Sunday afternoons and on many weekday nights. Should
you even want to lend a hand, there is always work to be done in a
railway club.

also visit the
Rungsted Remise cache.
The cache
The cache box is a 4L food container made of blue plastic.
Please close properly and be very careful when replacing it to
ensure that it does not fall out.
It is possible to access this cache without passing a gate.
However, if you pass an open gate on the obvious way to the cache,
you are free to go through it.
Please notice that the cache is in a private area and that
shunting of trains or other work may take place. Please take good
care of yourself and take extra care to ensure that children are
not running around unsupervised or crawling onto things. Apart from
the normal risk of getting dirty, there is also a risk of getting
oil and similar substances on your clothes in certain areas.
