Located at Lone Island Lake in Whiteshell Provincial Park.

There are many scenic gems in the Whiteshell. This is one that is tucked away and not featured in park brochures. With just a short hike and a steep but smooth climb, you will ascend above the trees and have a breath taking view of Lone Island Lake.

To get there, turn east on PTH 309 which intersects with PTH 307 just north of Jessica Lake. Turn right off PTH 309 at 50° 03.753N 95° 25.394W onto the road to Lone Island Lake. There is a sign marking the turn. Follow that gravel road to the boat launch area. Continue straight ahead past the boat launch area where the road is narrower until you see a picnic shelter. The road splits just before the picnic shelter. Turn left at the split, away from the lake. In just a few yards, the road will form a loop around an abandoned campground. There are still some tables there and it is mostly open area with lots of space to park.

Once you've parked, head for 50° 02.907N 95° 23.756W and you will find the beginning of the trail. Hike up the trail for about 35 meters and watch on your left for a steep stretch of bare rock reaching for the sky (50° 02.922N 95° 23.772W). Climb to the top and explore! There are some natural rock "benches" at the top to sit, rest and enjoy the view when you get there.

The round trip hike will be about half a kilometer. There is a route to the top from the boat launch area as well. You can use it to make a circle hike back to where you parked if you like. Remember this is wild country. Stay within your comfort zone.

Had to bushcrash for this one but the view was worth the effort. TFTC

Nice hike up the rock, the wild rice gatherers were out on the river. Eagle-eyed spotted it immediately. First cache of the day, and first cache for both of us. T nothing L a small zippered belt pouch with department's logo.

The wonderful gentleman from "Fox on a Rock" told us about this one. Nice hike, the kids loved the view and throwing rocks down the cliff.

Awesome cache, exactly the type you want to find. Great view. Thanks for the trail head coords since they don't bother marking it. FotLC 11. Maybe I'm mistaken but there seems to be much unreported findings recently.

Dropped in today to check on the cache. All is well.

This is my first time into this end of the Whiteshell since last summer's windstorm. There was much more damage than I had imagined. There are huge areas along the highway where the dead trees have now been removed.

There was only some minor knockdown in the immediate vicinity of the cache and the view is still as nice as ever.
