Geocache Description:

Only one minute hike up slippery path from carpark.

Ask anybody in Shannon to point you in the right direction of the Mangahao power station or follow the signs that say POWER STATION and/or DAMS.

Follow the road next to the powerstation for just over 7 km up to the first dam.

This is a single lane unsealed road (I love them!) and during the week there is some work traffic. In the weekend, you may come across some cross bikes coming around the corner or some people who have been abseiling off the dam - great anchor point in the middle.

Your parents or grandparents will love this as a sightseeing trip on a Sunday afternoon. They will probably tell you that it reminds them of the roads the drove their cars on fifty years ago.

If you have to choose a road, go for the high road. Park your car (4WD preferred, but the locals say you don't need one) by the dam.

Now follow your nose or, better still, your GPS. Ask your parents/grandparents to wait by the car - the path is usually slippery.

The trip back is mainly downhill, but remember you have as many chances to drive around a steep corner and stand bumper-to-bumper with another vehicle - so drive slowly and carefully.

The cache is a green Click-Clack lunchbox container with a official geocaching sticker on the lid.

It contains:
- 1 sausage dog
- 1 dog tennis ball (chosen by my dog Pepsi)
- 1 mini deck of cards
- 1 mini radio, which sometimes works
- 1 winner medal
- 1 blue Vivid marker (NOT for whiteboards - that's why I'm getting rid of it!}
- and of course a plastic bag with notebook and pencil.
