Geocache Description:

FLINTHOLM KIRKE - 1958-60

Arkitekt - P. Staffeldt Matthiesen

Grunwald.

Orgelet - Krohn 1966 - 19 stemmer

Architect - P. Staffeldt Matthiesen

Parish was separated from Lindevangs parish in 1949 and named after a local farm. Up to 1958 a former German refugee barrack served as a temporary parish church. The money for the current church was collected partly through the so-called “stenkort” (stonecard) (50 bricks a 0,25kr) and partly through bazaars.

The congregation wanted - against time trend - a traditional church and the architect agreed to the assignment and was inspired by the late roman Sorø monastery. Church complex is located over a T cross-shaped plan with office-, congregation- and scout premises in crossarms and basement. It is built of red stone with clay roofing, round curved endwalls and a copper clad rooftop on the center tower. Church space is dominated by Jais Nielsen three large mosaic windows that act as altar. The New Testament motives of the crucifixion in the middle is the repetition of a mosaic of Our Savior Church in Vejle. The preachingchair of wood, has carved panels with biblical motifs done by KF Grunwald.

Organ - Krohn 1966 - 19 voices
