Han blev født i et fattigt hjem på Fyn nær Nørre Lyndelse ved Odense.

Carl havde mange søskende. Faderen var landarbejder, men tjente lidt ekstra som landsbymusikant. Han lærte sine børn at spille violin.

Her viste sønnen sit store talent. Han kunne spille de store mestre som Mozart og Beethoven. Via musikforeningen kom han ind som basunist i et militærorkester.

Her lærte han at spille på en lang række instrumenter og blev forfremmet til korporal.

Dette åbnede igen muligheden for en friplads på konservatoriet. Herefter blev han kapelmester i Det Kongelige Kapel.

Han blev betegnet som Nordens største musikbegavelse for sin tid. Han tonesatte alt fra Jens Vejmand til at skrive symfonier og operaer.

I år (2006) ville Carl Nielsen fylde 141 år og museet i hans barndomshjem bliver 50 år.

Carl had many siblings. His father was a farm hand but earned a little extra working as a village musician. He taught his children to play the violin.

Here the son showed his great talent. He could play the grand masters like Mozart and Beethoven. Via the local music society he joined a military orchestra as a trombone player.

Here he learned to play a wide variety of instruments and was promoted to corporal.

This provided the opportunity for a scholarship at the musical conservatory after which he became a conductor in the Royal Danish Orchestra.

He was named the greatest Nordic musical genius of his time. He wrote melodies to all genres ranging from Jens Vejmand (folk music) to composing symphonies and operas.

This year (2006) Carl Nielsen would be 141 years of age and the museum in his childhood home will have stood for 50 years.
