Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the west coast overlooking St Ouens bay.

The cache can be reached from two different parking locations but I would recommend a circular route [1] which takes around two hours and encompasses the second parking location [2]. It is worth the walk to see the stunning views over the bay and take in some of the islands wonderful scenery and history.

[1] Suggested parking for circular walk N49°13.447 W002°13.516.

This car park is on the nature reserve of Le Mielle du Morville. Well worth walking around if time permits and using the BBQ facilities if you fancy. If you are a bird watcher there a several hides on the reserve and around St Ouens pond (the largest natural fresh water body on the island) offering a wide variety of bird life including Marsh Harriers.

From the car park head north-east N49°13.498 W002°13.166 through the green gate and take the small footpath on the left to reach the start of the escarpment footpath route (now enter cache waypoint).

You will be walking down grassed farm tracks along parts of the route, but these are part of the footpath system so don’t worry just keep to the footpath at all times. Along the walk look out for green lizards, the small apiary and enjoy the views overlooking the bay.

If you are doing the circular walk, from the cache keep following the path/road to the second car park [2]. Upon reaching it head down the small path on the right of the gate leading to the dolman. At the end turn left (south-east) follow the road until you reach a style on your right N49°13.588 W002°13.448. Here you can climb over and walk back through the nature reserve to the suggested car park location [1].

[2] Suggested parking for 1 hour route N49°13.951 W002°13.470.

This car park is located above the headland known as the “Crying Fields” where women and children would come to wave off their loved ones who were going to sea. It is worth the walk over to the headland to see the views (west from car park). To the South-east of the car park is a Neolithic dolman which is also worth a look. Head East from the car park back up the road until you see a marked footpath on your right.

The cache is located along the footpath and a medium sized dark green tupperware container with various swaps.
