Cream of Galloway meet 2006 Event Cache

flipflopnick: After extensive searching found guidelines about event caches. Not easy to find, still don't know how I got to that page. Unlike caches near this event, which I do remember how I got to.
All expectations realised, but two. Did not get to 'out on a limb' (lowercase), and people turned up to the event. Highlights see logs for Hestan and Merrick. A big thank you to Clyde Valley and itschopper, who made it all the more worthwhile.
We left a legacy from this event, in the form of Kirkcudbright Town multi-cache. Clyde Valley's idea.
Can thoroughly recommend Kirkcudbright as place to stay.

Geocache Description:

A camping event in Galloway, Scotland, between September 4 to 10, to get to grips with South West Scotland caches and socialise. The highlight of the trip will be a walk out to
Hestan Island on Friday 8 September or Saturday 9 September. At this time of year, the tides are amongst lowest, ideal for some of the coastal caches around southern Scotland.

WHEN September 4 to 10 2006. Particularly Friday 8 September or Saturday 9 September. Intend to arrive late on Sunday 3 September, depart following Sunday.

WELCOME
Please join in either on the camp-site during the week or on one day walking out to Hestan Island. If unable to make it on Friday 8 September walking out to Hestan Island, say if able to make Saturday 9 September. Should be better informed having been out day before. Please say how many people on which day, Friday or Saturday, for Hestan Island.

WHY?
These are amongst lowest tides of the year. A rare opportunity to WALK out to Hestan island, not to be missed. Meet parking place co-ords on Hestan Island cache page, at 15.30 on Friday 8 September or at 16.15 on Saturday 9 September.

High water Solway is 12.53 BST on Friday.
High water Solway is 13.36 BST on Saturday.

But if we get tide completely wrong, may not reach island at all. (yet another DNF!)
Hopefully we'll be back before sunset.

CAMP-SITE
Staying on Silvercraigs Camp-site, in Kirkcudbright. This is council run, with all the facilities for vans, tourers and tents. In September cost is £10.20 for up to 4 people, per tent/van/tourer. Additional people in tent/van/tourer £1.60. Discount for 7 nights. 01557 330123 (visit link)

N.B. Camp-site takes cash and cheque only, no cards. RBS ATM in town.

A group rate may be negotiable. No booking required, but please also say how many on camp-site and for which nights, or if day visiting. Many hotels and rental cottages nearby.
