How Geocaching Works
This is a four stage multi-cache in Lower Whiting Park.
Welcome to Lower Whiting Park, on the banks of the Plover River where it empties out of McDill Pond and continues to the Wisconsin River. This site is the former home of a sawmill, a grist mill and a sulphite mill, as well as the original location of the Village of Whiting.
Seekers of this cache may remember our now-defunct Seed of Gizmo! cache located in this park, as well as the hordes of hungry mallards that haunt the parking lot in the winter(bring bread, lots of bread).
The first waypoint is an historical marker, where you will have to solve for the following:
N44 29.ABC W089 33.DEF
A=3rd digit of the year the sawmill was built
B=4th digit of the year McDill village was platted
C=4th digit of the year that Alexander and Thomas McDill purchased the sawmill
D=4th digit of the final year of operation of the John Strange Sulphite Mill
E=2nd digit of the year the site was occupied by the Wisconsin Graphite Company
F=The number of chutes on the nearby dam
No cache hunting takes place on or near the dam!
The final for this cache is a camouflaged ammo can, and the intermediate waypoints are different micros.
