Almost a cache and dash as it is only a short walk over some rough common land but feel free to sit and ponder for as long as you want. The cache involves a short walk to the virtual cache where you can work out the co-ordinates to the regular cache (only a short distance away) which was only placed here as an excuse to get people to visit the virtual cache. There is a very busy road to cross before you get to the trail so be careful if you have animals or children.
As this place seems to be overlooked even by the locals I thought I’d place a cache here so that anyone who is unaware of the place can come and see it for themselves. Parking should be available at N51 39.335 W004 00.938. From here cross the road and follow the pavement to the start of the trail at N51 39.384 W004 00.739 (right next to the lamppost). You can get to the virtual cache anyway you want but the easiest place to start is the co-ords above as there is a path of sorts here. The terrain is a little rugged which is why I was wary of calling this a cache and ‘dash’ how they managed to do what they did here I have no idea!!
The first virtual cache is at N51 39.412 W004 00.612 and is very obvious from the start.
Here there is a plaque with 12 lines of text in Welsh and English so going against my ‘heritage’ (my ancestors will be turning in their graves) use the English version to work out the final co-ordinates.
The regular cache is at N51 PQ.RST W004 00.XYZ where:
P = the 10th letter of line 1
Q = the 3rd letter of line 1
R = the 5th letter of line 4
S = the 1st letter of line 5
T = the 20th letter of line 6
X = the 12th letter of line 6
Y = the 21st letter of line 7
Z = the 2nd letter of line 8
Now you should have 8 letters. Convert these letters into numbers by taking their position in the alphabet ie. a=1, b=2, c=3, d=4, e=5, f=6, g=7, h=8 and i=9, and then place them into the co-ordinates above.
The cache is placed here solely for the opportunity of visiting this historic place and as the plaque explains everything there is no need for me to bore you with the history lesson here. Enjoy.
