Geocache Description:

An urban hide, with close parking.

This cache and hopefully the future series of caches was inspired by 50sumtin's "Been Here" series. If you have had the chance to visit his series, (or if you haven't, why not???) you'll know his series memorialize places he's worked over the years. Well, this cache (and future series) will memorialize places I have "Built" over the years. Having worked in the construction/facilities managment field in the Bay Area for over 20 years, I've had the chance to get around a little bit.

The White House:

Some people call this the house that Jerry built, since the founder and pervious CEO could be a bit flamboyant and was quite a showman in his day. I had the opportunity to work as a Facilities Engineer for close to 4 years for this company and spent sometime working in and around this building. In their day, this company had close to 20 buildings in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, before spinning off their Flash Memory division and sending all manufacturing to Austin, Tx or Dresden, Germany.

The purchase of this site caused quite a stir in the real estate community. The old building had sat for years, having been vacated by the previous owner (a very large telecommunications company) and no one really wanted to buy the site outright. Well, That didn't stop Jerry! A first of a kind deal was made with a bank in Canada, where the company would buy the building, sell it to the bank and then lease it back from the bank. After an extensive refit/remodel, the rest is history.

My favorite feature of the building is the grand staircase that leads to the executive suites on the second floor. It was rumored that there was a secret driveway/entrance/underground parking area, just for the CEO, but I could never find it on the blueprints.

I still have some great friends who work here at the corporate headquarters and for the company that was spun-off, in a building very close by. Glad they are doing well in the market and gaining marketshare on their major competitor, who I also "Built" for (but that's another cache and story .

You can park at a nearby vacant building. The cache container is larger than a 35mm film can, but still a micro. There is a pen in the cache and room for some tiny trade items, but please do not take the pen

Gave it 2 stars on difficulty, but I think it's easier than that.

Congrats to WalruZ for the FTF!

6/29/06: After a litte camo maintenance... there is no need to grab and pull. Just give is a little twist and you'll be surprised.
