This hide is part of the Talimena Treasures cache series, which now
includes 18 caches. You can plan a day of driving this wonderful
scenic byway and pick up a lot of smilies, some history, and
breathtaking views.
Few people set foot on the Ouachita Trail, even though it is known
for being one of the most scenic trails in America. It crossed the
Talimena Drive several times, so I decided to place a cache where
you can easy walk a little ways on the trail.
You'll need to pull off the scenic drive onto a nice gravel road
(forest road 6010) and park. From there, walk down the trail and
enjoy the flora and fauna.
My goal is to someday hike the trail from at least Talimena State
Park to Queen Wilhelmina State Park. After doing this cache, you'll
be able to say you've hike at least a portion of the trail (a few
feet of it, anyway).
