Please note: To use the services of geocaching.com, you must agree to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Are you ready for the ultimate Colorado challenge?  The Colorado DeLorme Atlas and Gazetteer has 92 map pages.  You need to find 92 caches to complete this challenge.  Do not go to the listed coordinates, they are to the Denver Zoo.
Please note that the coordinates posted on this page are not the coordinates for the final cache-indeed they might not even be close to its location!!!

1.  Find a cache within the boundaries of each page of the Colorado DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer.  All cache types count as finds for the DeLorme Challenge.  If a page overlaps into another state, then the cache must be within the State of Colorado.  (10/10/06 The cache must also be listed with the state of Colorado, the virtuals that are listed in other states that border Colorado don't count).

2.  Generally accepted rules, guidelines and conditions for logging a cache find apply.  These must be bona fide caches listed on Geocaching.com that you have personally (physically) found and logged.  You may include caches found prior to the creation of The Colorado DeLorme Challenge.

3.  Remember all caches must meet the guidelines of geocaching.com.

4.  After completing the challenge you will need to notify me that you have found all the required caches.  I will verify that online logs satisfy the requirements.  I will then send you the coordinates to the final cache and log book.

5.  If you find the final cache accidently, your log will be deleted until you complete the challenge.

6.  (10/10/06)Page 102 and 103 contain 2 maps on each page.  You must find a cache for each of these maps.

7.  (3/16/07) Logging of a cache that has been archived will not be counted towards the challenge.  If a cache gets archived after you have logged it, it still counts.

8.  There are a number of editions of the Delorme Atlas now out with minor printing differences.  To avoid any confusion about what page a cache is on, the following table will be considered the authority.

I had meant to include in my "found" discussion a tribute to all of you who have made this challenge easier. So I'm copying here a portion of my found note on the Fizzy Challenge. Thanks so very much!

"Thanks, Greasepot, for the fun and excitement you've provided me with the Fizzy Challenge! And thanks to all the cachers who have placed the great caches that are so important to completing this, the County, and the DeLorme challenges. Because of the more recent cache hides, reeling these challenges in has become a lot easier than it was for the early completers. I have huge respect for them and what they accomplished–when the rarer combinations were exceedingly rare, and some counties and Delorme pages had virtually no options!"

Well, what can I say....I've just had an extraordinary caching day that I'll never come close to repeating. Today I completed three Colorado mega challenges by getting the final cache needed for each on this single day: The Colorado DeLorme Challenge; Mondo's Colorado 64 Challenge; and the Well Rounded Colorado Cacher (Fizzy Challenge). I had not planned for all three to come together at the same time. That simply happened in the course of caching events. Yesterday I realized that the final combination I needed for the Fizzy was attainable by a drive from Wellington to the Tarryall Reservoir area. I already had completed the requirements and had been provided with the final coordinates for the County and DeLorme challenges, both of which were on the general route I'd be driving, so I had everything I needed to finish all three challenges on one long drive. And it worked out!

In March I drove to Texas to hike up Guadalupe Mountain, the high point of Texas, catching Black Mesa (the HP of Oklahoma) en route. As I planned that trip I decided to catch the high points of nine counties in SE Colorado, and that got me thinking about clearing DeLorme pages and county caches at the same time I was accomplishing the high points. Ahem....Colorado County High Points, Colorado County Caches, DeLorme Caches all as a coordinated effort. It worked, and I continued this theme through the spring and summer (am now just two county high points away from climbing or hiking all 64 of those, and, weather permitting, I'll finish the high points next week). On most of the hikes/climbs and cache-finding efforts my puppy Teewinot was with me. She almost deserves to log the Challenges, too, but she's had great difficulty figuring all this nonsense out and doesn't understand this sign-in thing that I do at the caches when there are always so many interesting things to sniff out near the cache sites. So she hasn't satisfied the technical requirements of these challenges, but she's really come close!

I consider there to be four mega challenge caches in Colorado, the above three plus The Tahosa Challenge Cache (GC1PFYM). I own the latter, so can't log it, even though I've completed all it's requirements. So if anyone has some suggestions of caches that come close to equaling the kinds of efforts required for these four, please let me know. I'm looking for some new mega things to focus on!

Thanks, Greasepot and Grand High Pobah, for the fun and excitement you've provided me with the Colorado DeLorme Challenge!

Wow. What a wonderful challenge and great way to see Colorado. We truly enjoyed burning the fuel to take in all the beautiful sites. Maybe we will try another state sometime. Thanks for keeping this cache available!

What a great way to see just about EVERYWHERE in Colorado - reminded me of how much I love this state. Visited some places I'd never been before, and revisited places I hadn't been to in a long time. A great Tour de Colorado, although I'm happy to be finished before the snow starts to fly (like it did today!) Thanks for an interesting challenge.

We will admit that it took more than a couple of trips to finish this cache, but what can you say? We believe this is the only way to see a state, well maybe just the best way. Colorado has always been one of our favorite states to visit. This challenge took us to so many places that we had not seen before. Colorado is noted for it's mountains, but we saw that and so much more. We will never forget the experience. Thanks for bringing us back and back and back.................

Thanks
