The hike is 1.5 miles total with a gradual elevation gain of approx 300 ft. Parts of the path do cross small streams and rocky sections that can be slippery. Parking for this hike is very limited (only 2-3 spots) at the end of Marion Ave. Total time out and back is 1 1/2 hrs.
The real treasure from this Cache is the picturesque waterfall at the end of the trail. The hike is 1.5 miles total over a well worn path that parallels the brook. The trail has a constant gradual grade (approx 300 ft) and parts of the path do cross small streams and rocky sections that can be slippery. It's a wonderfully remote location right in North Adams. We could not get a good GPS reading near the falls, so we placed the Cache along the trail. The GPS reading was done on our Magellan eXplorist 210. Due to the steep canyon walls and high mature tree canopy, the best reading we could was 75 ft accuracy.
The Cache can be found in an "Otis Spunkmeyer" cookie container. (Creative recycling of container from Williamstown Elementary School fundraiser) The container is about the size of a larger Rubbermaid container and is white with red and blue graphics. The cache contains a log book, a variety of new Matchbox cars and a few McDonalds Happy meal toys. We would love for everyone to sign the log to help our small kids track where people have come from to visit our “hidden treasure”
Parking for this hike is very limited (only 2-3 spots) at the end of Marion Ave. Please be sure to respect the people in this quiet neighborhood.
