Welcome to Puzzle Street!
If you like puzzles, this is the place for you. Inspired by Easy
Street, this is a place where you can pick up quite a few finds in
a hurry on a nice groomed trail... but only after spending a lot of
time at home working out the coordinates. Each cache in the series
is a puzzle that you must conquer before getting your cache
find.
Once you're ready to hit the trail, here are a few things that
might help.
- All Caches are Winter Friendly - In most cases this
means they are hung in trees, but there are a few exceptions as you
will find where other opportunities presented themselves.
- No Bushwhacking Required - Well, at least not much. :)
For those caches in trees, pretty much all are placed in trees on
the forest edge near the trail. Sometimes they're placed a little
further back for better cover (and the forest edge is farther from
the trail at some places than others), but if you find yourself
going more than about 5m past the forest edge into the woods you're
probably going too far.
- All Caches are On the Large End of "Small" - Most of the
caches are camoflauged 1L peanut butter and mayonnaise jars. Some
are a bit smaller, but the smallest would probably be about 500ml.
So, even though the caches are almost all listed as Small, you're
never looking for something really small.
- Listed Coordinates are Usually Road Accesses - The
listed coordinates for the cache indicate the location of the
closest road access to the trail near the cache. In some cases this
spot may have a nice parking area where you can leave your car, and
in others there may be barely room to pull off long enough to grab
the closest puzzle cache. Sometimes the access is a nice plowed
road going to houses near the trail, and other times it's a woods
road you wouldn't want to tackle without 4-wheel drive. It varies.
They are given for your consideration if you're only doing one or
two caches, but the best place to park is at N44 18.215 W64 33.715
(as this is the center point from which Puzzle Street branches in
both directions) and enjoy a nice hike along the trail.
- Please Honor the Puzzles! - By this I mean don't go out
in the winter looking for footsteps leaving the trail and follow
them in hopes it was another cacher going after a cache. Play fair
and solve the puzzles for the caches you find.
- A Mountain Bike Can Help - Puzzle Street extends several
kilometers in each direction from the parking area. It would make a
nice walk, but it is also a nice bike ride. The trail is a
rails-to-trails trail, so if it's dry it may also be suitable for
strollers and wheel chairs.
- All Puzzle Solutions Can Be Checked Online - I've
entered all the final coordinates for the puzzles into http://www.geochecker.com so you
can confirm whether you have correctly solved a puzzle (removing
the need for those pesky checksums).
Enjoy the series! And now, to get things started....
Here are two pictures of what will greet you, the start of the
trail and... the start of the trail. You might even be able to see
where the cache is in this picture. So, what are you waiting for?
Go get it!
