Geocache Description:

At this spot you will find a Highway 1 pull off, a (now former) model plane airport, and remains of a century-old railway.

Note: As of fall, 2008, the model plane club has lost its lease and moved elsewhere. The owner seems to be parking rusting agricultural machinery on the spot. We're leaving the cache in place in its memory - the vintage RR remains are still there.

Toy Planes: On the far side of the old cutting is a busy airport - if you like your planes in modest sizes. This is the flight area for the Peninsula Channel Commanders remote control model plane and glider club. Best time to see them flying is a clear weekend day. If club members are present, you are invited to enter through the gate and visit the field.

Trains: As you face West, look for the odd, inexplicable sideways cutting through the hill. This was once the route of the Ocean Shore Railroad, built from 1906 onward to run down the Coast from San Francisco to Santa Cruz. It never made it there, but ended not far south of here at The End of The Line. The railroad went bankrupt in 1920, and the tracks were soon torn up, leaving odd remains such as this scattered down the San Mateo coast. See this bookmark list for more Ocean Shore Railroad caches.

Automobiles: Well, it's a good place to pull off Hiway 1 and watch the traffic go by. There's a call box and a nice view of the wide Pacific. Look for fishing boats inshore and container ships on the horizon.

You are looking for a small ammo can. You don't need to go crunching through the bushes to find it.
