A very short, 10 minute hike up a hill to a ledge with a view. Cache is an ammo can starting out with an assortment of goodies.
From Tuftonboro, take Route 171 to Canaan Road, towards Camp Merrovista and Sentinel Babtist Camp. About one mile in, at the crest of a hill, take the dirt Sentinel Lodge Road to the right. Less than a quarter mile in pull over very carefully (there is a “hidden” culvert) at N43.42.951 W71.13.934. Look behind you for the blue sign to “The Ledges”.
The view is towards the southern end of Lake Winnepesauke. The ski mountain is Gunstock. The bedrock is an edge of the Ossipee Ring Dyke and is porphyritic rhyolite, a pale lava rock.
