Zero Gravitas: As there's been no cache to find for some time, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. Geocache Description:

Walking Track suitable for everyone, but grass area soggy and wet in winter.

Lake Henley is a man-made lake which was created in 1988. It was initially intended as a water sports centre, but it has now become an important and favourite spot for all Wairarapa residents, and the many visitors who are attracted to the beautiful area.

The lake itself is 11 hectares in size and there are four small islands in the middle of the lake. These have become important breeding areas for many species of water birds including the New Zealand Scaup. All around Lake Henley there are stands of harakeke (flax), and this of course gives the birds security to lay their eggs and raise their young during the breeding season. The surrounding park covers 32 hectares and has been planted with kowhai trees and others so that in summer the park is very well patronised.

One can walk right around the lake on a track that is very popular with schools for the athletics part of their sports program, and for dog-owners. The walking track is a designated area for exercise where it is actually permissible to exercise your dog off the leash.

As to the original purpose of the Lake? Fishermen love it, rowers love it and people with model sailboats love it. Every year there is a Dragon Boat Festival, when Masterton rowers compete against teams from other areas of New Zealand.

The surrounding park covers 32 hectares and has been planted with kowhai trees and others so that in summer the park is very well patronised.

Take the time to stroll around the beautiful waterway. Whether exercising your dog, taking a nap under one of the glorious trees, or searching for a cache, Henley Lake has become one of Masterton’s outstanding leisure areas.

Cache is 600 ml camo, (similar plastic sistema container), initially containing:——
Magnetic Clip
Scorpion (last time seen alive)
Wooden Cat
Dot to Dot Puzzle Book
Taonga (Maori symbol for safe travelling, friendship and bravery) Necklace
Log Book, Pencil and Sharpner

Park at the Main gates to Henley Lake on Te Ore Ore Road. Take a five minute leisurely stroll in an easterly direction inside the Park on the walking track beside Te Ore Ore Road, diverting off the walking track once having crossed the small wooden bridge.

**PLEASE TAKE NOTE**
We are no longer living in the Wairarapa Area. The winterless north is now our home. So if someone wishes to check our caches when they are seeking them out and replace anything thats needs to be ...... then thank you very much. That will keep the cache going. Otherwise we will have no choice but to archive the cache, and another one will bite the dust ;-)...
