About this cache: New Hampshire once had a large industry surrounding the quarrying of granite, this gave it the nickname of "The Granite State." Granite stone walls, curbs, buildings, and even bridges can be found throughout the state. At one time, it appeared that almost every town had at least one quarry. Although most of the granite quarried was used locally, New Hampshire granite has journeyed to many places in the world to become part of monumental buildings, such as the Library of Congress, the Tomb of the Unknown Solider, the Brooklyn Bridge, The Pentagon, and many Civil War monuments.
When the word "granite" is mentioned, one thinks of other words such as solid, grounded, unyielding, and set in stone. When the term "The Granite State" is mentioned, that brings to mind New Hampshire, and in New Hampshire, the word "granite" stands for something just a bit more. It stands for the industry that was born in the late 1800's in the city of Concord, on Rattlesnake Hill.
This cache is located on one of the many trails that run through Rattlesnake Hill. It is a 30-cal ammo canister located near one of the granite quarries in the area. The trail is level most of the way, but it is very rocky. Supposedly, this trail doubles as a mountain bike trail, so bring a bike if you wish. I wouldn't recommend small children for this hunt. And you may want to leave slightly older children behind if you decide to look at the views... there's some inappropriate graffiti in a couple spots.
Park on the side of the road at N 43° 12.999 W 071° 34.310. Then, just go where your GPS tells you EXCEPT when you're about .19 miles from the cache, the trail forks. The GPS will probably tell you to go left, but you're better off going right.
The cache is about 100 feet off trail, and should be pretty easy to find. The coords are within 22 feet of accuracy.
Enjoy!
