Geocache Description:

Malakal is a nice town at the border of the Nile in Upper Nile State in Southern Sudan. A Vocational Training Centre is supported by UNIDO in its restucturing and development for education to Youth.
Public Internet Access in not yet available, but awareness is created for the possibilities of being in a global system.

I did work at regular intervals in Malakal as ICT, Information and Communication Expert for UNIDO at the Malakal Vocational Training Centre.
Placing this cashe was of course one of the actions to bring information about the possibilities of Internet and Satellite Communications.

The Cache itself is a plastic transparent box of 35x20x20 cm, containing:
1. A logbook
2. Introduction to geocaching
3. To whom it concerns
4. Some pencils for entering data in logbook
5. Pencil sharpeners
6. Electricity socket adapter
7. Six alcaline batteries for GPS
8. Sunglass cleaner cloths
9. Some other ginmmicks

The plastic box and content were brought along from the Netherlands to Malakal.
Internet awareness, awareness of the possibilities of being member of a virtual group, like geocachers, still is in development at the Malakal Vocational Training Centre.
As for this moment is in the town no public Internet Access possible. The International Aid organisations possess VSATs and other means for communication with the Internet. The learning process of Internet possibilities by local public is still in its very initial stage. This cache is intended to contribute to awareness of the Internet and GPS possibilities by bringing geocachers in contact with teachers and instructors of professional youth.
Placing the cache in the open is difficult, so now the box is under good guardance of the UNIDO Local Project Leader.
People are friendly, eager to talk to you and to learn from you. It is very much expected that you give some more details about the hobby, your own professional activities and if you can; teach a few things. English conversation is wanted.
