Geocache Description:

In brush/open forest, but surrounded by suburban development, there is a sinkhole where we placed a cache nearby. You may see deer, rabbits and perhaps a coyote.

In the mid 70's a storm sewer line through this area was built to serve the housing developments to the south and by McCarthy Woods. The line runs from a pedestrian pathway near Plante/Condor Dr and exited into Sawmill Creek near the Airport Parkway/Walkley off ramp. In 2005 most of the flow was diverted into Pond #3 by the Parkway, see Sawmill-Walkley Reservoir cache.

Apparently this sinkhole is over the sewer line. I informed the City Sewer Department but they are not concerned.

The sinkhole cache is accessible by bike or from Walkley Station, or the 146 bus stop at McCarthy and Southmore. Bus 140 is infrequent. If driving you can park on Linton near Thorndale or maybe the Airport Parkway, west side. You can aim first for the post at N45.21.731, W75.40.029, there used to be an NCC No-Dogs sign there. Heavier going through low brush and raspberries from that point in late summer. Pathways can be muddy after rain. In late summer wasps may build a nest in the hole. Winter access is easier. Travel along the railway tracks is not advised and there is a wet ditch you would need to cross; follow the hydro lines instead.

The cache is gray-brown painted peanut butter jar, between two branches, in a tree, approximately south of the sinkhole, about 5 times as far away as the sinkhole is deep.
