Access to the cache on foot, only at low tide otherwise by boat.
The Parengarenga Harbour can be fished from the wharf or by boat with a variety of large fish to be caught.
A brilliant white 1,600 hectare sand spit contains some of the worlds purest silica sand, an ingredient in glass making, which was once shipped by barge to glass works in Whangarei and Auckland.
Each year, in late Feburary and early March, the Godwits gather on the sandspit before leaving on their annual migration to Siberia & Alaska. The odd ship wreck can be viewed around the harbour enterance.
The cache is a 2 ltr ice cream container, wrapped in a black rubbish bag. It contains a log book, pencil & an assortment of items with an AQUA THEME. (Please swap items with a similar theme.) There is a PRIZE for the first to find the cache.
