Geocache Description:

A short walk from the village of Cromdale

The Battle of Cromdale took place in this area in 1690 and marked the end of the first Jacobite War.
Both the Jacobite and Government armies were very short of food and small in number as a result of a second hard winter.
The Jacobites fled in two directions; Buchan over the Cromdale Hills to Glenlivet and Cannon up the Spey where Cluny MacPherson gave him brief refuge. Those fleeing up the Spey were persued and the next day some Macleans and Camerons heading for Lochaber were caught and killed at Granish near Aviemore before they could reach the safety of Craigellachie Hill.
