Geocache Description:

DA: I Wallensteins fodspor
EN: In Wallensteins foot-steps

EN: The fortification Nordre Skanse (which roughly translates to Northern Entrenchment) is established 1627-1629 under the austrian general Albrecht Wenzel Eusebius von Wallenstein's occupation of Jutland, in order to prevent the combative people venderne (people who lives in Vendsyssel; the part of Jutland north of Limfjorden) to have contact with Hirsholmende and Laesoe, which was still under command of the danish King Christian IV.
Similar fortifications was laid in Elling (Strandby), Fladstrand (southern part of Frederikshavn), Sæby, Voerså, Hals og Sundby, of which Nordre Skanse is the best conserved.
In the spring of 1629 Wallenstein's troops left Denmark and the fortification was taken in possesion of landsværnet (a local militia), who sequently named it Nordre Skanse.

This day Nordre Skanse is equipped with to ancient canons and the area is maintained by the citys gardener.
