This cache is a tribute to the Pioneer Farm families who came west
with the openning of Columbia Basin Project.
The completion of Grand Coulee Dam brought irrigation to the desert
area of the Columbia Basin. Construction of the Columbia Basin
Project has brought some 671,000 acres under irrigation. The soil
and climatic conditions are favorable to the growth of grain,
alfalfa hay, ensilage crops, dry beans, fruit, sugar beets,
potatoes, sweet corn, and seed and other specialty crops. Dairy
farming and beef production are significant in the area. These farm
families toiled to turned the Basin into one of the most productive
farming areas in the nation. These farmers made the desert bloom
with crops. Now as time passes so do these tough pioneers. As a
group these pioneers agreed to leave the land in this cemetary as
they found the land when they came to this area. There is no
irrigation. You will find these pioneers buried with the
tumbleweeds, sagebrush, and grasses native to this area. A land
where only the strong lived and built a legacy.
The cache is a camo jar with a log and normal cache items. Do not
drive through the gate. Let yourself in and make sure to close the
gate as you leave.
Please enter with respect and do not disturb any plots.
