This cammoed micro is hidden at the WWII 18th Anti-Aircraft Battery. This was a command centre that contains the remains of 5 artillery emplacements, which were fully functional, except for the fact that the guns were made of plywood and telephone pole construction, and there was no live ammunition. They were put in place as decoys to "help protect Halifax from attacks by air". Such dummies, common also in Britain, were devised because there was simply not enough time or materials to build the real McCoy. The general area around the Battery also contains a number of less obvious remains of this WWII outpost, including small foundations for sheds, living quarters and mess (north), and other minor ruins.

You can also find part of the Trolley Tracks railway that serviced the local granite quarries in the area. Remains of the old-style granite quarrying can be seen all around the east and south sides of the hill that has the Battery ruins. The remains of the Trolley Tracks can be traced to a terminus on the north side of the hill, next to the location of the ruined WWII living quarters.

(Thanks to Iris Shea and Terry Deveau for background information on the Battery)
