Degree confluences occur at the intersection of lines of latitude and longitude at exact degree intervals. They are few and far between on land in NZ, but minute (mini) confluences are much more common.
Notable mini confluences occurring in Auckland City are on the summit of One Tree Hill and just inside the walls of Mt Eden Prison. If you come across any others, please post them here.
I have placed a cache where my GPS indicates a mini-confluence on the very edge of the shoreline on the Manukau Harbour. It is within a half dozen crow-fly kilometres of the mini-confluence at the given coordinates, which you do not need to visit and in fact cannot, as it is on Puketutu Island
Your task is to identify the most likely candidate coordinates, then eliminate all but one for your search on the ground.
The cache is easily accessible on foot, but should not be attempted above mid tide; expect a bit of Manukau mud. It is about 600m from the nearest beach and access point and you will pass a large disused structure en route.
Cache is 380ml clip top box and contains only logbook & pen.
