Geocache Description:

A walk to a viewing platform for breathtaking panoramas of the sea, lagoon and snow-capped Southern Alps.

The cache is accessed from the Okarito Trig walk, located near the end of the road through the Okarito township. The turnoff for the town is well marked along state highway 6, about 15 minutes drive north of Franz Josef Glacier.

The walk itself is well sign posted, and the time stated is 1:15 return. You will walk from sea level to ~160m in a relatively short time, so be warned. As of June 2010, when the cache was replaced, the track has been completely redone, and doesn't follow the original track at all. It seems to be much shorter and easier.

At the top you get magnificent views of the 3200ha Okarito lagoon, the Southern Alps, with Mount Cook standing tall, and Franz Josef Glacier clearly visible. The site has historical significance, with a trig being present here since 1865.

In summer this spot can be a popular muggle area, this will make finding the cache difficult, as the ability to be discreet is limited.

Hint - At the top you will find another not so clear path vearing off to the right (as you head up), it is on this track that you need to be. We moved it away a bit so cachers could still search easily with other visitors being present.

The container is a 400ml clear sistema container.

This cache has proved to be a problem, with it going missing on at least three occasions. If there are some local forces at work here I'd just like to point out that we come in peace, mean no harm and just want to share the area with others!
