Geocache Description:

Wire Cache
A CN Rail station nearby also has this name. It was thusly named as is because it was near this location that a cache of wire was left. The wire was to be used for a Trans Siberian telegraph line to Europe. It has been said that the cache was the size of four train flat car loads. As the railway was not built yet in the mid 1870’s, this load of wire and insulators was brought here by horse for the last 20 miles. It came the previous 100 miles from Kamloops by the steam powered sternwheeler, the SS Marten circa 1875. The telegraph line was never built and the wire was used by the prospectors, miners and ranchers of the day.
This site is frequently used by travelers of the HWY 5 as a welcome rest from the long drive. A good place too stretch ones legs and enjoy the North Thompson River.
