At the northern boundary of the Municipality of North Grenville along the Rideau River is a .34 acres park named in honour of Gideon Adams, an MPP in the 6th Parliament of Upper Canada. Adams was born in Connecticut in 1755. He fought in the American Revolution as a member of the Jessup’s Rangers. In 1818, he moved from Edwardsburg Township to South Gower Township, now part of North Grenville. Adams became a justice of the peace in the Eastern District in 1796. During the war of 1812, he served as a major in the local militia. Adams died in South Gower Township in 1834.
Gideon Adams Park is undeveloped. It is a favorite birdwatching venue in the Ottawa area. Look for an osprey nest platform north of the parking area. Watch closely in the fall for migrating birds stopping over along the Rideau River.
The cache resides along the trail in the wooded area to the south of the parking area. The cache container is a 1750 ml plastic snap-lid box. It is not camouflaged but it is concealed. The trail can be muddy at times but the distance to the cache is short: approximately 200m.
To reach the park from highway 416, exit at Regional Road 19, Rideau River Road. The park is approximate 4.5km north. Slow down as you approach the entrance to the park: the road is angled for approaching traffic from the south and you do not want to overshoot and have to come back from the north.
