Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
A very typical urban micro, unfortunately. Difficulty results
mostly from the fact that you can't just pull over and grab it.
PLEASE DON'T POKE AROUND BELOW THE HIGHWAY OR
ANYWHERE NEAR PRIVATE PROPERTY. It's actually easy and quick
to get this cache and attract no attention whatsoever. So have fun.
Keep Three Yolks within view! No room for trade items, though. And
BYOP.
Three Yolks Breakfast & Lunch was a landmark on Route 1A ever
since I can remember, and it always had the misfortune of being on
the wrong side of the road. In the morning, when the place would
actually be open, commuters would be going south towards
Boston--and there was absolutely no way to get to Three Yolks from
the southbound lanes. You could get in from the northbound lanes,
but by the time the commuters were on those, it would be late
afternoon, and Three Yolks would be closed. I never understood how
the business managed to stay afloat under such conditions.
Having seen it every time I took 1A to and from Boston, I resolved
to go to Three Yolks and try it, but it wasn't so easy, because I
hardly ever drove by on the northbound lanes while it was open.
When I finally managed to get in, I got a pretty good breakfast for
$2.50. Weeks later, after decades of keeping up the good fight,
Three Yolks finally succumbed.
Never again will I see the "3 YOLKS" sign as I go around the curve
on 1A. On a cold, rainy November night (10 PM on Wednesday,
November 8, 2006, to be exact), I placed this cache nearby in honor
of the landmark that is no more.
