Geocache Description:

I didn't stay around very long to see if the FOLEY HOUSE was haunted or not. Some strange sounds were coming out of the building as I was attempting to place a cache here.

Here is what I found out from www.downtownhouston.org/Home/News and www.artshound.com/?app=venueDetail&id=639.

The primary residence of Blanche Foley, cousin of the brothers who founded Foley’s Department store and an early leader of the Houston Symphony Society, the Foley House remains a testament to the struggle between the desire to hold onto the past and the need to reconcile with the demands of the future. It is one of the last surviving manifestations of a time when decorum weighed heavy and privacy was fiercely guarded. Indeed, the idea behind the exhibition is one deeply ingrained in such history. Both men and women of the Victorian era communicated fluently through a language not merely of words but of symbols, behaviors and discrete movements: For example, slight variations in the way a woman held a parasol could be used to express flirtatiousness or demureness, openness or a desire for privacy; variations in type and color of a flower a man presented to a woman could similarly insinuate emotions.

You can still hear Blanche upstairs listening to her music. At night time, Blanche puts on a unique light show for her visitors. I haven't been there at nighttime to see what she is doing.

Be careful, you may see Blanche looking out one of the windows

Plenty of Parking is available most of the time except at time of any nearby events. No mosquitoes to speak of. Well lighted. Suited for kids, parents, friends, wheelchair persons. Well protected.

At times, there may be hundreds of muggles passing by the location.

Other attractions around the house is Minute Maid Park, George R Brown Center, old rail engine #93, the Park shopping center and other sights.

The container is a little larger than a 35mm film canister but only contains a log. Will try to add a pencil/pen later.
