BT Hike Event - Caledon Hills Section: Part 1 Event Cache

Goal: To hike the first 38.8km of the Caledon Hills section of the Bruce Trail. The Caledon Hills section is a total of 70.6km in length.

24 People attended my first BT Hike event (GCZZZ0) back on April 6, 2007, which consisted of hiking the entire 52.3km of the Toronto section of the Bruce Trail. It was quite the distance to hike (10km longer than a marathon) and it took my knee about 3 months to fully recover from that hike. Now I plan to continue where we left off and hike the entire Caledon Hills section, but since it is 70.6km long, we will do it in 2 parts, where the 2nd part will once again most likely be on Good Friday (March 21, 2008).

For this hike, I have picked Saturday, November 24th which just happens to be a full moon this day, just in case the hike lasts until dark. Let's hope that the temperature will be between -5° and 5°C and no rain to make it a perfect day.

I estimate that the entire hike will take about 10 hours to complete, so we should be done around 6pm. This is at a moderate 4km\h pace.

If you can't make the entire hike, maybe join us for part of it atleast. You can always drop out along the way if you feel it's too difficult or too long.

Meet at 8am at the posted coordinates, which is at the corner of Creditview Rd and Boston Mills Rd in Caledon.

Destination is the 38.8km mark of the Caledon Hills section of the Bruce Trail which is at Coolihan Side Rd and Glenn Haffy Rd. (N43 56.262 W79 56.101)

Parking: According to the Bruce Trail guide there is roadside parking on Boston Mills Rd east of Mississauga Rd which is 1.3km west of the starting point of the hike. I have also talked with the Toronto BTA and they have said that you could probably squeeze one or two cars in on Creditview Rd just north of Boston Mills Rd, and based on where people parked for the last event, I would guess that there is room for a few more at the starting point. I plan on parking my car at the starting point. If I recall correctly there is more than enough road side parking on Coolihan Side Rd at the end of the hike. Hopefully some people will park at the end and carpool back to the starting point both before and after the hike.

What you should bring: Water and other drinks. Food for lunch, dinner and snacks. GPS. Maps. Camera. Cell Phone. First Aid Kit. Advil/Tylenol.
