Dit
is een multi-cache in en rondom een groen stuk in Breda: het
Valkenberg!
Breda als voormalig garnizoenstad heeft een rijke geschiedenis en
alleen al in en direct rondom het park is daar veel van terug te
vinden. Het stadspark behoorde tot 1812 tot het nabijgelegen
Kasteel van Breda (waar nu de Koninklijke Militaire Academie huist
(KMA)) en was niet publiek toegankelijk. Oorspronkelijk was het
huidige Valkenberg een bos met hoge bomen dat in de 17e eeuw werd
omgevormd tot een park.
De antwoorden op de vragen zijn alle in de buurt van de waypoints
te vinden. Het beginpunt (WP1) is op een paar honderd meter van het
NS station vandaan. Parkeren is mogelijk naast het station of aan
de zijkant van het Valkenberg. De moeilijkheid bij deze cache zit
hem voornamelijk in de vragen, maar vergis je niet! Zoals met vele
urban caches wordt de omgeving druk bezocht. Het zal dus niet
altijd even makkelijk zijn om de cache ongezien te loggen.
Tip: Het theehuisje aan het begin van het park is ideaal om wat
rekenwerk te verrichten of jezelf te belonen na de vondst! Let op
bij het rekenwerk: vermenigvuldig alleen als je een '*' operator
tegenkomt. Een aanrader is om het boekje
"Wandelen door Breda" te kopen. Het geeft veel culturele en
historische achtergrond bij wat er in de oude binnenstad te zien
is. Het is verkrijgbaar voor ongeveer 2,50 Euro bij het VVV.

Dit monument toont het wapen van de stad
Breda en herinnert aan de stadhouders, beginnende met Engelbrecht
de eerste.
- Vraag 1: Wat zijn de middelste twee cijfers van het
tweede jaartal (van links naar rechts gezien) van de voorlaatste
(van boven naar beneden gezien) vermelde Willem op de zijde waar de
meeste Willems vermeld staan? (=A)
- Vraag 2: Wat zijn de laatste drie cijfers van het
jaartal waarin de derde Willem van boven werd gehuldigd tot
stadhouder (zelfde kant, deze Willem is een Koning)?

singel. Uit hoeveel letters bestaat de naam van deze brug?

Tip voor na het geocachen: In de Grote Kerk (zie foto) is het
onder meer het graf van Engelbrecht I, Engelbrecht II (met een
impossant marmeren praalgraf) en Jan van Nassau te
bewonderen. |

This is a multi-cache in and around a green place in Breda:
Het Valkenberg.
Breda as former garrison city has a rich history and just in and
around the park there is a lot of it to be found. Until 1812 the
city park belonged to the Castle of Breda located nearby (in which
now the Royal Military Academy (KMA) is located) and was not
publicly accessible. From origin the area was a forest with tall
trees until it was changed to a park in the 17th century.
The answers on the questions can all be found on/near the
waypoints. The starting point (WP1) is located about hundred meters
from the train station. Parking is possible near the train station
or next to Het Valkenberg. The difficulty with this cache is mainly
in the questions, but don't be deceived! Like with many urban
caches, there usually are a lot of people around. It will not
always be that easy to log the cache without being spotted.
Tip: The little teahouse at the entrance of the park is an ideal
place to do some arithmetic or to reward yourself after the
finding! Pay attention while doing the arithmetic: only multiply
when you encounter the '*' operator. Furthermore, when you are interested in cultural and
historical aspects of the old city center I really recommend the
brochure "Strolling though Breda", which can be bought for about
EUR 2.50 at the tourist office (which is called VVV in Dutch).
