Geocache Description:

The cache is located just off the Trans-Canada Highway west of Marathon near the road to the Wawatag Generating Station.

The Wawatag Generating Station is located on the Black River near where it flows into the Pic River. The current generating station, with 3 water wheels, was developed by the Pic River First Nation in the 1990's. The original small generating station was built by "The Ontario Paper Company" in the late 1930's and operated for several years supplying the company town of Heron Bay South until the 1960's when it was abandoned.

Maintenance udertaken on May 26, 2009. The cache container was replaced with a small lock 'n lock bright green in colour. New container - new contents. The original container, once refurbished will be used for a new cache.

September 15, 2013 - maintenance completed - The cache container was replaced with a cammofladged lock'n'lock, new logbook, differenr swag. It is now "Winter Friendly"

The "Evil 14 lb Bug" TB was placed with the original container when the cache was fisrt put out.

The cache is located just off the Trans-Canada Highway #7 west of Marathon at the road to the Wawatag G. S. Although there is what looks like a trail to almost the cache location, bushwacking is involved for the last 5 metres or so. There is enough room to park at the entrance. The road is gated with warnings signs not to enter. You do not have to go pass the gate to go to the cache location.

The sign at the entrance with Wawatag G. S. on it also indicates that tours of the generating plant can be pre-arranged by telephoning the Pic River Reserve.
