Spiegelgrund Memorial /Gedenkmal Multi-cache

Background of this cache

Mr. Otto Habsburg, son of Austria's last emperor, spoke on the occasion
of the 70 anniversary of the 1938 Anschluss Austria's to the 3rd Reich on a
commemoration ceremony held by a conservative party. His opinion is that there
is no other European country more entitled to be called a victim of the Nazi
regime than Austria. That is why I want to draw your attention on some of the
real victims of the Nazis in Austria and in the same time to defocus on the
willingly applauding and jubilating so called 'victims' on the Heldenplatz
in March of 1938.

During the years 1940 to 1945 around 800 children were tortured and killed
in the so called Spiegelgrund Clinic. The crowd on the Heldenplatz was name-
and faceless, all of the victims have names and faces - children's names,
children's faces, e.g. Heinrich or Lydia.

Only in 2002 the collected tissue samples, in most cases brain and spinal cord
specimens collected by the proponents and myrmidons of Nazi atrocities like
Heinrich Gross, were inhumed in a honorary grave at Vienna’s Zentralfriedhof.

Stage #1 - The start

To avoid an initial interference with the highly recommended cache
Kirche am Steinhof the starting point is set to the entrance of the so called
'Pulmologisches Zentrum' at
N   48° 12.380'
E 016° 16.400'

Stage #2 - The field of Stelae

From the starting point (or from elsewhere) proceed to the so called 'Field of Stelae'
("Stelenfeld" in German) at around
N2 = N   48° 12.477'
E2 = E 016° 16.791'

There, looking roughly northwards, you see a grey information panel on the
left side of the field. Read there: In memory of the Spiegelgrund
(Clinic's) victims. Each stela stands for one extinct life. The strict
alignement is a symbol of the children's situation, imprisoned and
deprived of any freedom.

Let the number of lines on the front side of this panel be A.
(do not count in the line with the erection date)


Stage #3 - 'Pavillon 15'

The building #15 was the house of horrors. There (and in some extent in the
buildings #11, 13 and 17 too) children and adolescents were tortured and killed.

Standing in front of building #15 and looking northwards:
take the obvious number floor levels of central part of the building for B.


Stage #4 - Memorial for all victims of the Nazi regime

Find the memorial stone at around
N4 = N   48° 12.595'
E4 = E 016° 16.726'

Let the number of words (do not count in the date) on the front side of the
memorial stone be C.

Not far from the memorial you can find the building "V". During the opening
hours or on special appointment you can visit an interesting exhibition
about the Spiegelgrund victims.


Stage #5 - The way to find the cache

On the way to the cache you may like to spend some moments of remembrance,
you certainly will find a peaceful place nearby to do so.

If you like go to the final coordinates according:

N5 = N4 + (10 * B + 3 * C)/1000'
E5 = E4 - (5 * A + 8 * B - 1)/1000'

There you should see a vertical entrance to Hades, the ancient Greecs
underworld. Stand in front of the horizontal door,
bear 10 * C + 10 * B + A / 6 degress on your compass
and go in that direction for C to 2 * C meters
to find vertical in vertical.

The cache consists of a former paté jar.
The cache initially contained:

logbook (not to be removed)
pencil (not to be removed)
as well as some trading items.

Hintergrund dieses Caches

Nachdem der Sohn des letzten österreichischen Kaisers, Herr Otto Habsburg,
in einer von einer konservativen politischen Partei im Reichsratssaal des
österreichischen Parlaments organisierten "Gedenkveranstaltung" zum
Anschluß an das, wem sei auch immer Dank doch nicht 1.000 jährige Reich
deutscher Nation, meinte, daß es kein anderes europäisches Land
gäbe, das größeres Anrecht auf die Bezeichnung "Opfer" im Zusammenhand mit
nationalsozialistischer Machtübernahme hätte als Österreich, möchte ich das
Augenmerk auf tatsächliche Opfer des Nationalsozialismus in Österreich
lenken und die willfährig applaudierenden und jubelnden "Opfer" am Heldenplatz
des März 1938 ein wenig in den Schatten stellen.

In den Jahren 1940 bis 1945 wurden am sogenannten Spiegelgrund an die 800
Kinder und Jugendliche mit kaum vorstellbarer Grausamkeit gequält und
schließendlich ermordet. Die Masse am Heldenplatz war namen- und gesichtslos,
alle Opfer des Spiegelgrunds haben Namen und Gesichter - Kindernamen,
Kindergesichter wie z.B. Heinrich oder Lydia.

Erst im Jahre 2002 wurden die von entmenschten Nazischergen wie z.B. Heinrich Gross
entnommenen Gewebeproben, zumeist Gehirn- und Spinalpräparate, in einem
Ehrengrab am Wiener Zentralfriedhof bestattet.

Etappe Nr. 1 - Der Beginn

Um eine anfängliche Überschneidung mit dem sehr empfehlenswerten Cache Kirche am Steinhof
zu vermeiden, habe ich den Startpunkt in die Nähe des Eingangs zum
"Pulmologischen Zentrum" gelegt.

Etappe Nr. 2 - Das Stelenfeld

Vom Startpunkt (oder sonstwo) ausgehend begeben Sie sich bitte zum
Stelenfeld bei ungefähr
N2 = N   48° 12.477'
E2 = E 016° 16.791'

Wenden Sie sich nordwärts, links des Stelenfeldes werden Sie eine
graue steinerne Hinweistafel zum Stelenfeld finden. Die Anzahl der Zeilen
auf dieser Tafel ist A
(die Zeile mit dem Errichtungsdatum ist nicht mitzuzählen).


Etappe Nr. 3 - Pavillon 15

Das ist der Pavillon des Schreckens. Hier und in anderem Ausmaß auch in
den Pavillons 11, 13 und 17 wurden Kinder und Jugendliche bestialisch gequält
und ermordet.

Stellen Sie sich vor die Frontseite des Pavillons und blicken Sie nordwärts.
Die offensichtliche Anzahl der Geschoße im zentralen Teil des Pavillons ist B.


Etappe Nr. 4 - Gedenkstein für alle Opfer des Naziregimes

Den Gedenkstein finden Sie bei ungefähr
N4 = N   48° 12.595'
E4 = E 016° 16.726'

Dei Anzahl der Worte, die Jahreszahl ist nicht zu berücksichtigen, auf der
Frontseite des Gedenksteines ist C.

Unweit des Gedenksteines finden Sie den Pavillon V. In diesem ist eine interessante
Ausstellung zum Spiegelgrund-Thema untergebracht. Während der Öffnungszeiten oder
nach spezieller Vereinbarung können Sie diese Ausstellung besuchen.


Etappe Nr. 5 - Der Weg zum Cache

Am Weg zum Cache möchten Sie vielleicht kurz der Opfer gedenken. Sie werden sicherlich
in der Nähe ein friedvollen Ort dazu finden.

Gehen Sie nun zu den finalen Koordinaten entsprechend:
N5 = N4 + (10 * B + 3 * C)/1000'
E5 = E4 - (5 * A + 8 * B - 1)/1000'

Dort werden Sie einen senkrechten Eingang zum Hades, der alten Griechen Unterwelt, finden.
Stellen Sie sich vor das horizontale Tor, peilen Sie 10 * C + 10 * B + A / 6 Grad
und gehen zwischen C und C * 2 Meter in diese Richtung
um vertikales in vertikalem zu finden.

Der Cache besteht aus einem Spanndeckelglas
