This cache is located at one of Marion County's favorite watering hole-or should I say launch pad- The KP Hole.
After the cache went MIA, we rehid it outside the park gates and can be found 24/7. It is a camo'd container stocked with trade items with log & pen inside. Please rehide it well as there can be a lot of muggles present, especially on the weekends!
I used to come here when I was a teenager and WOW has it changed!! Marion County Parks & Rec. Dept has upgraded this area from dirt roads to park on, to a beautiful multi-building facility, with a small launch area for canoes & kayaks, boardwalks and great picnic areas. You can visit the Marion County web site for more information. There is no charge to go look around, only if you are going tubing or paddling.
The entire Rainbow River is 5.7 miles long
From KP Hole up river to the main springs is 1.5 miles (where Rainbow Springs Park is located, there are geocaches there as well)
From KP Hole down river to the tuber exit is 3.3 miles long
From KP Hole down river to the Withlacoochee River is 4.1 miles long
From the KP Hole down river to the City Boat Ramp (where we launch) is 4.75 miles long
Tube rental is $9 + tax including return shuttle service only $7 if you bring your own tube, raft or whatever floats.
Kayak & canoe rentals include hourly rates as well as "Down River Trips," which vary by double kayak, single kayak or canoe. Diver Down flags are also available to rent for a very nominal fee.
You may bring your picnic lunch and coolers: NO ALCOHOL (they will check your cooler) and NO FISHING OR ANCHORING.
We generally take out our boat and start down in the Withlacoochee River and drive up to the Rainbow River which is no wake and no anchoring, so in order to help preserve this beautiful area, for generations to come-PLEASE OBEY ALL LAWS AND REGULATIONS (they are posted everywhere just in case one might forget
)
So pack you lunch, your swimsuit, towel, snorkeling/diving gear, waterproof camera, sunscreen, GPS and go have a great day!!!

2010 UPDATED INFO:
New Notice...Tubing and Shuttle Service are available April 1st through September 30th.............................. April 1st to May 8th all floaters must be in the Park and on the water by noon. Between May 9th to September 30th tube rentals will cease at 1 PM. All floaters must be in the park and on the water by 1:45 PM. In effect NOW as of Jan. 1st 2010, all flotation devices are limited to a size of 60". These new rules are necessary because a lot of folks don't make it to the exit before dark or the time of the last shuttle run. Also the tube size restriction is needed to keep the Rainbow River accessible for other vessels
