This is on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail (LHHT). The only
'difficult' part is the very end has a steep part. Round trip hike
is approx. one mile. NOTE: THIS CACHE CANNOT BE ACCESSED FROM THE
DIRECTIONS LISTED BELOW. THE BRIDGE THAT CARRIES THE LHHT OVER THE
TURNPIKE IS CLOSED FOR SAFETY AND SCHEDULED TO HOPEFULLY REPLACED.
THE LHHT CAN BE ACCESSED FROM THE SOUTH FROM KUHNSTOWN RD OFF
SR4001. THE ROUND TRIP WILL BE APPROX. 3 MILES. NEW PARKING COORDS
WILL BE POSTED SOON.
This is our 1st cache placement. It is a lock n lock clear plastic
container. We placed a log book, a few items for trade, etc. Also,
we placed our 1st TB. (UFD TB) This cache can be accessed from a
couple of ways. From RT 31 at Bakersville (Camp Conestoga) on
SR4001. Or Rt. 30 from Laurel Summit Rd. Both ways go to the
parking area which is located on Hickory Flats Rd. ** Please note**
do not follow the driving instructions from Google unless you put
in the parking coordinates as your destination. There is NOT access
from the PA Turnpike. From the parking spot, walk SW 0.15 mi. on
Marshall Fields Trail, look for the LHHT crossing, yellow blaze, go
left. (37 mi. marker on LHHT is the halfway point to the cache.)
**Do not take the 1st road left. The LHHT is a small entrance into
the woods a little past that. A map of the area is included for
reference. Please leave in the cache for others to see. If you
would like maps of the area, go to the website:
http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/stateforests/forbes.aspx This
cache is placed with DCNR approval. Enjoy the beauty of the area,
you may even see wildlife along the way. We even spotted a 'bear'.

October 15, 2009 by dave bear (229 found) today is actually the 19th but found on the 15th. enjoyed the walk to the cache but a sunny day would have made the trip sooo much better. very nice woods and interesting walking over the pike. the rain that started falling made the trip back more interesting. foggy glasses and wet, rocky, leaf covered terrain is tricky. found the cache without too much problem. do have to say that i did not see any travel bugs in the cache. dave bear

August 16, 2009 by phantom mullet (88 found) Good location. This has been one of my favorite places to visit since I was probably 3 years old when my parents pulled my brother and I in sleds along the snowmobile trail. When I was older , but young and stupid, I drove my car down there in the winter and got stuck. If you go out on the middle of the bridge with a few people jumping at the same time you can feel it move.

August 6, 2009 by PortagePA (24 found) Couldn't find it...even after doing some bushwhacking and crawling. I did enjoy the hike and, yes, I did see a "bear". In fact I was able to see the bear catch its prey--two times.
