Since the 1980s, Mölten (Meltina) has been richer by one
more attraction.
Almost by accident, a unique find was stumbled upon in 1980 when
the town administration began to use the quarry at the Mölten Pass.
In subsequent years, under the energetic leadership of the then
mayor and mineral collector, Franz Josef Karnutsch, a separate,
freely accessible area for the presentation of the fossils came
into being. The fossil exhibition displays the most beautiful finds
from the area, whose landscape - steep slopes, gorges and rock
walls down to the Adige Valley, gentle mountain pastures, forests
and Alpine meadows up to the 'Stoanerne Mandln' (Stone Men) - is
the result of a geological process over millions of years. The
petrified wood fossils, which are around 260 million years old and
come for the most part from the quarry at the Möltner Pass, are
especially worthy of attention.
To log this very interesting museum you have to do the

Seit den 80er Jahren ist Mölten um eine Attraktion reicher.
Fast zufällig stieß man um 1980 auf einmalige Funde, als die
Gemeindeverwaltung den Steinbruch am Möltner Joch zu nutzen begann.
In den darauf folgenden Jahren entstand, unter tatkräftiger
Anleitung des damaligen Brügermeisters und Mineraliensammlers Franz
Josef Karnutsch, oberhalb des Rathauses ein eigener, frei
zugänglicher Bereich für die Präsentation der Fossilien. Die
Fossilien-Schau zeigt die schönsten Funde aus der Umgebung, deren
Landschaftsbild - steile Abhänge, Schluchten und Felswände hinab
bis in das Etschtal, sanfte Bergwiesen, Wälder und Almen hinauf bis
zu den 'Stoanernen Mandln' - das Ergebnis geologischer, über
Millionen Jahre wirksamer Prozesse ist. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit
verdienen die ca. 260 Millionen Jahre alten fossilen Baumreste, die
zum Großteil vom Steinbruch am Möltner Joch stammen.
Um diesen Cache zu loggen, müssen Sie folgendes tun: Bring ein

Dagli anni ‘80 Meltina può vantare un'attrazione in
più.
Intorno al 1980, quando il Comune iniziò a sfruttare la cava sul
Möltner Joch, il Giogo di Meltina, vennero scoperti quasi per caso
dei reperti eccezionali. Negli anni successivi, su iniziativa del
dinamico sindaco e raccoglitore di minerali Franz Josef Karnutsch,
fu realizzata, sopra il Municipio, una sezione espositiva di
fossili aperta al pubblico. La mostra espone i reperti più belli
rinvenuti nella zona, il cui paesaggio - caratterizzato da ripidi
pendii, gole e pareti rocciose a picco sulla Val d'Adige, ondulati
prati alpini, boschi e alpeggi, sino ad arrivare al pianoro detto
'Stoanerne Mandln' - è il risultato di complessi fenomeni geologici
avvenuti nel corso di milioni di anni. Particolarmente interessanti
sono i resti fossili di alberi di circa 260 milioni di anni fa,
rinvenuti in gran parte sul Giogo di Meltina.
