Geocache Description:

09 May 2020, 12:00 - 14:00

A weekend away from home in lodge style accommodation, or a day in the mountains, either can be accommodated. This year it's a Celebration Event to enjoy the 20th anniversary of Geocaching.

This get together of geocachers will be hosted at

The Apira Ski Club

a private non commercial ski club lodge located in the heart of Mount Buller Alpine Village.

The nominal time for the event will be
noon on Saturday 9th May 2020,
concluding at 2pm.

It's fine to come up for the day, but the preferred option would be to stay at the lodge for one, two or three nights, any or all of
Friday 8th, Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of May.

The lodge will be available for our use from 4pm Friday night until 10am Monday morning and the donation to the club to cover accommodation will be $25 per person per night.

We will need to bring our own food and drinks, however the supermarket is very close by and open from 8am to 9pm, and 8pm on Sunday.
The lodge has a very well equipped kitchen and an industrial dish washer. There is also a laundry and generally, everything we need.

The club supplies all bedding except sheets and pillow cases, so you need to bring those, or sleeping bags if you'd prefer. You'll also need to bring towels and you may like to bring a bath mat too. The usual arrangement is to bring your own sheets and pillow cases, and use the club beds, pillows and doonas.

Summer activities at Mount Buller include hiking, mountain bike riding, tennis, and of course, there are lots of  geocaches in scenic locations within hiking distance around the mountain.

At least one mountain bike trail leading down the mountain beside the Delatite River, has a series of caches beside it, and there's  the Klingsporn Track, an 8km downhill walking track which has an ammo can series leading you down the mountain. There's also a series of caches along the the Corn Hill Walking Track to Howqua Junction. We can pick you up at the finish of these walks and bring you back up again by arrangement.

There are also many mountain 4WD tracks nearby, leading to places like Craig's Hut, Mount Stirling, The Bluff, and so on.

Children are welcome but will need to be supervised by their parents.

Caravans are not permitted past Mirimbah at the foot of the mountain.

Further information will be added closer to the event.

We have accommodation for about 36 people accommodated in 9 rooms of varying configurations.

There are 6 rooms with well organised share facilities and 3 rooms with en suites. Two of the ensuite rooms have four single bunks, and one large room has a double bed and 5 single bunks. It's best if the ensuite rooms are used by families or groups comfortable living together. The unisex share facilities are spacious and private and should not be a cause for concern. After a list of attendees is finalised the room allocation will be done to try and come up with the most agreeable layout.

More information about the lodge is available here on the club website and here which is a page in the member section, but made available for your perusal.

When you log your Will Attend, if you wish to stay overnight please include your number of attendees, and nights you wish to stay. I will contact you to finalise your booking well before the event.

If the weather is bad, which can occur in the mountains, we will be able to have some group working sessions on GSAK, GPS hardware, or anything else which emerges where we have suitable resources, knowledge and interest. Or else, we will sit in lounge chairs with a beveridge, and gaze across the valley to The Bluff, waiting for those attempting the Denali series down in the valley to set off an EPIRB.

Although there is no camping, and caravans are not allowed on the mountain, there is a very nice little camping ground at Mirimbah, at the bottom of the mountain access road, about 30 mins away. See the additional waypoint.

If you have any questions, please contact me by Geocaching Messenger and I'll respond as quickly as possible.

NOTE:  Are you a newbie cacher attending your first event? If you enjoy geocaching and wish to take your membership further, you will be eligible for 1 month free upgrade to a premium membership. See me, gmj3191, at the event for the details.
