Geocache Description:

On the west side of South Mountain at the source of a small creek.

Park along the east side of the road at N39.35.507' W77.36.212'. About 100 yds north of the creek crossing there is a jeep trail that you can walk up for about 1/4 mile. Then follow the creek valley until you get to the cache. It gets steep and rocky when you get to within 1/4 mile of the cache. Parking is at 700 ft AMSL and the cache is at 1150 ft. Total distance on the ground is only about 0.6 miles but the grade gets to about 25% near the cache.

The cache is located just inside the South Mountain Natural Environmental Area. Please leave only footprints behind. Also the road seen on the map to the south of the creek is a private drive and should not be used.

Cache is a small ammo box under a big rock just about at the source of the creek. For the last few hundred yards the creek is under ground but can be heard here and there.

Contains a little bit of everything from belt buckles to a hard drive. Please sign the log.

We placed this cache after dark. There was a full moon and about 1 inch of snow on the ground. We had no trouble seeing and didn't use flashlights. You can see the lights of Hagerstown through the trees.

It would be fun to know if anyone can locate this one at night. Good luck and don't cache alone on this one.
